This is something that I created for a college project several years ago. I am digging it up again because I am having to answer questions that are much better answered by this tutorial than just text.

While the program it is based on is now quite outdated, the basics are still the same. I hope this helps someone.

Please bear in mind that this is an introduction to photoshop, for someone that hasn't picked it up before. That being said, it might be worth a look through, a lot of people still don't know anything about dpi and the difference between CMYK and RGB. :)

Adobe has begun offering CS2 as free download and I downloaded it a few weeks ago...this tutorial is very helpful! Doesn't really matter that it's outdated.

If the work is for print and screen, what would be better for both?

Thank you from a completely new owner of Photoshop cs5. My program of choice has been PSP 9, but this tut has helped me to understand some of the features of PS.

Thanks for this tutorial. It's wonderful, since it is very comprehensible and covers the basics. And you're right, Ps Help feature is hard to navigate sometimes and one can get a little frustrated, but with this tut the foundations are easily explained. And once you have the basics covered then you can follow advanced tutorials more easily, but most importantly, with the basics you can start experimenting and creating on your own.

My sincere thanks and respect.

I believe so, as long as you have a web browser or a similar program to view it with. (You don't have to be online, just need the program.) Just please don't redistribute. :)

Small error:
On the first page of "The Photoshop Toolbar" segment, you say that the asterisk symbol for important tools will appear in the top-left corner for important tools. It always appeared in the top-right. Thought I'd let you know ;P

OOOOHHHHH... THAT's what the multiply layer does... :iconheaddeskplz: I feel really stupid now.

BUT that's a great explanation of the basics no one told me (for some reason PS CS4 assumes I MUST have fully understood CS3 before purchasing CS4... but I never had PS before, so...) So, THANK YOU for a good, interactive understanding of the program

It's really not obvious when there are no pointers, so no need to feel stupid, it took me a long time to figure it out too. :)

You are welcome! I am so glad I could help out.
